Across the world, thousands of social entrepreneurs are exploring how to harness market forces for social good. However, most of them fail to achieve scale. Since 2009, we have reviewed the challenges at the Base of the Pyramid in sectors as diverse as energy, safe water, smallholder agriculture, nutrition, sanitation, ICT, marketing and distribution, affordable housing, and public-private coalitions, scanning over 1,500 BoP projects and organizations and analyzing in depth over 150 of the most successful among them.
