About
Amref Health Africa is a non-governmental organisation headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya and founded in 1957. Our vision is lasting health change in Africa. We began partnering with communities to improve health in Tanzania in 1957, and set up an office in Dar es Salaam in 1987.
In partnership with the Government of Tanzania and the Ministry of Health and Social Wefare, Amref Health Africa has supported the development of national health policies and guidelines for equitable health service delivery. Amref Health Africa in Tanzania has also helped to set up the department of community health, a malaria centre, and an environmental health program at the University of Dar es Salaam.
Amref Health Africa Tanzania programmes and projects respond to the national health priorities and address the critical health needs of women and children. We work to increase the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of health services by strengthening health systems, improving access to services, advocating for stronger community health systems and influencing health policy.
