Agency for Rational Energy Use and Ecology

The Agency for Rational Energy Use and Ecology (ARENA-ECO) is Ukrainian non-governmental and not-for-profit research and project development organization which provides services aimed at improvement of fuel and energy efficiency and environmental protection. ARENA-ECO’s mission is to promote sustainable economic development and environmental management through the energy efficiency improvements in energy, district heating, industrial, transport, buildings and other sectors.
The Agency was established in 1994 as self-managed and self-financed not-for-profit organization through partnership with National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Battelle/Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (USA), World Wildlife Fund, and with support from US DOE, EPA and AID. Big group of Ukrainian and international energy and environmental experts provided an invaluable support in the process of establishing and evolvement of ARENA-ECO, including Prof. Volodymyr Tonkal, Prof. Arkadiy Stepanov, Dr. Yuriy Blavdzevich (all from Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences), Prof. Mykhailo Kovalko (Ukrainian Oil and Gas Academy), Meredydd Evans (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, U.S.), Brian Castelli (Home Performance Coalition), Greg Kats (Capital E), Jaroslav Maroušek (SEVEn, Czech Republic), Bill Eichbaum (World Wildlife Fund).
Agency is governed by the Board of Directors,  composed of William Chandler, President of Transition Energy; Galyna Fedorova, Deputy Executive Director, ARENA-ECO; Mykola Raptsun, Independent Consultant; Serhiy Surnin, Executive Director, ARENA-ECO. Agency’s team of experts includes highly qualified professionals in the fields of energy, environmental protection, economics, financial analysis, etc. ARENA-ECO also subcontracts leading specialists from various research and design institutions as consultants and advisers for development of specific projects. 
Many years’ experience of successful collaboration with Ukrainian governmental, municipal and private organizations as well as the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Global Environmental Facility, the International Energy Agency, United Nations Organizations and Programs, governmental institutions and leading companies from the EU, USA, Canada, Japan and other countries allows ARENA-ECO to provide customers with services meeting high international standards. 

In 2012 ARENA-ECO suspended its operations due to unacceptable economic and business conditions created by corrupted government.
