About

Tira for Research and Studies is a Libyan non-governmental organization that started its activities in April 2011 in the Nefusa Mountains. Tira focuses on capacity building and awareness-raising among the Amazigh community with the goal of supporting their political participation and human rights. Tira pays specific attention to educating the community on women’s and children’s rights in order to help them thrive and work towards achieving a safe and secure environment for the most vulnerable groups. In 2014 through a UNDP-funded project implemented by CLIC, Tira recently conducted a series of workshops targeting CSOs and lawmakers from all across Libya, educating them about Amazigh culture, and raising awareness of the challenges faced by this minority group amongst the Arab population to the end of promoting multiculturalism and inclusivity in the new Libyan constitution.

CLIC partnered with Tira in 2015 to implement a project funded by the Canadian Government under the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) programme. Leveraging their strong local capacity in the Nefusa Mountains and with the support of Canadian funding, Tira implemented awareness raising workshops for men, women and children in the Amazigh community in the Nefusa Mountains.
