Study for the Integration of Ai in Space Exploration Activities - Expro Plus

Objectives: The objective of this activity is to systematically identify and assess opportunities for integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into ESA's current and future human and robotic exploration activities. The study targets practical AI solutions to enhance operational efficiency, enable new capabilities, and improve mission outcomes, while evaluating the data infrastructure needed to support these solutions. The project will be undertaken by two consortia of Industry and Academia focusing on AI use cases for exploration missions and assessing the readiness of ESA's data infrastructure for supporting AI solutions. The study will analyze AI's applicability, benchmark ESA's strategies against other space organizations, identify infrastructure gaps, and propose standardization improvements, thereby setting the foundation for future AI-driven projects in space exploration.
