Update on December 1st, 2015:

(F) This project will support priority road improvement interventions in rural areas of greatest poverty in Nicaragua and incorporates the following priority issues that allow to increase the effectiveness of interventions: (i) take stock of the cumulative efforts of institutional strengthening of the MTI, lessons learned and continue to support institutional strengthening; (ii) include an analysis of the effects of climate change from factibility studies and design of works to be considered in this operation; (iii) incorporate road safety actions for the benefit of users of the roads, particularly the pedestrian; (iv) prioritize the gender perspective and incorporate an unprecedented pilot training in Nicaragua for heavy equipment women operators; and (v) support the MTI for the systematic construction of a valuable body of knowledge on the impact of transport operations through the generation of empirical evidence, this being a pioneer in the field of impact assessment operation. This project seek to improve the road network in two of the regions of Nicaragua with high poverty indicators, specifically in the department of Jinotega and RACCN to facilitate: (i) the mobility of people and goods to and from national and regional productive markets; (ii) access to health and education, reducing time and travel costs; and (iii) the physical integration of areas affected by the lack of permanent road connectivity. In this context, the MTI has presented for this operation improvement of existing rural roads: (i) Pantasma - Wiwilí with a length of 48.4 km in Jinotega serving an area characterized by its agricultural production potential of basic grains and coffee and other crops; and (ii) Rosita Bonanza, 32 km. to the RACCN located in a sector which main economic activity is mining, followed by agricultural activities mainly related to basic grains, citrus fruits, tubers and sugarcane. Status: In preparation stage. Total cost: US$ 90.7 million. Loan amount: US$ 90.7 million. Executing agency: To be determined.
