Description

Winrock International is a nonprofit organization that implements a portfolio of more than 100 agriculture, environment and social development projects in over 40 countries. Created nearly 40 years ago through the philanthropy of Winthrop Rockefeller and John D. Rockefeller III, Winrock has extensive on-the-ground experience in Asia, Africa and the Americas, and provides evidence-based solutions to some of the world’s most complex problems. Our mission is to empower the disadvantaged, increase economic opportunity and sustain natural resources.

Zambia has experienced strong economic growth in the past decade, making it one of the fastest growing economies in the word. Despite this, more than half the Southern African country lives below the poverty line. Since the 1990s, Winrock has worked with the Zambian people to develop sustainable energy solutions for agricultural development, open new markets for smallholder farmers, and increase educational opportunities for girls and boys through scholarships and mentoring. Currently, Winrock is addressing the root causes of hunger and poverty through building the capacity of African leaders, communities and institutions.
