Project description

The KfW financed Nablus West Wastewater Treatment Plant (NW-WWTP), located at about 12 kilometers West of Nablus City, produces high quality waste water that is suitable for reuse in agriculture.

The overall objective of the Nablus project is to make “best use” of the available reclaimed water from the NW-WWTP through a water reuse irrigation scheme in an area of approximately 2,000 donum. The core element for project success is the establishment of a well-functioning Water Users Association (WUA) and respective capacity building and training for its members. In this frame, the Agricultural Engineer will support the WUA in operating the irrigation system independently and sustainably.

Job description / Main duties and tasks:

• Advisory services, supervision of on-farm development and monitoring of irrigation management;
• Development/refinement of irrigation schedules;
• Review/adaptation of on-form irrigation designs as needed;
• Regular communication and coordination with WUA and MoA for on-farm development process and operational assistance;
• Joint work planning with WUA agricultural engineers;
• Regular progress update with local project partner on training aspects;
• Assistance to WUA for supply processes and supervision of supply processes;
• Monitoring and supervision of technical works;
• Participation in WUA and farmer trainings and monitoring of training process;
• Reporting on on-farm development in the project and on operational assistance;
• Support to general reporting.
  
  

Qualifications & Required Experience:

• University degree in irrigation and/or agricultural engineering (combined with a degree in environment would be an asset)
• Preferably an advanced or second degree in a wastewater and reuse project
• Fluent in English (at least B2 proficiency level)
• At least 10 years of relevant post-graduation experience
• 8 years of experience in a comparable field
• At least 3 similar projects in the last 10 years
• Experience in the middle east or similar region
