Position Description

Connexus is seeking a Senior Social Behavior Change (SBC) Specialist for the anticipated MCA Lesotho Horticulture Training, Gender, and Social Development (HTGSD) opportunity. The core objective of this initiative is to design and implement training and capacity building activities for smallholder farmers and emerging agribusinesses across the horticultural value chain, with a particular focus on the inclusion of women and youth. Falling under the Market-Driven Irrigated Horticulture (MDIH) Project, HTGSD seeks to improve the social, institutional, and business enabling environment for commercial horticulture production and to optimize the utilization of irrigation infrastructure investments.

As the Senior SBC Specialist, you will be tasked with designing and implementing evidence-based and contextually appropriate SBC strategies and interventions that promote the inclusion of women in commercial horticultural production in Lesotho.

The position will be based in Lesotho. This position is contingent upon project award and approval by MCA Lesotho.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance on the design and implementation of a community-based and gender-responsive SBC strategy for Lesotho.
• Conduct behavioral analysis to identify drivers and barriers to behavior change among the targeted groups.
• Bring insights from the latest developments and best practices in the social and behavioral sciences and participatory approaches to community engagement to improve SBC program outcomes.
• Engage key stakeholders from government and other relevant entities.
• Use data to identify priority behaviors in specific contexts.
• Provide training, mentoring and technical guidance for the implementation of the SBC communications and advocacy strategy.
• Lead SBC learning activities and document learning; prepare reports, presentations, short articles for publication to disseminate learning.
• Integrate gender-transformative approaches (GTA) in SBC approach.
• Ensure robust monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of SBC strategies and programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant social science discipline required. Master’s degree in relevant social science discipline preferred.
• Ten (10) years of experience designing and implementing Social Behavior Change (SBC) projects with a focus on community-based and gender-responsive approaches.
• Five (5) years of experience in project management at a senior strategic/managerial level.
• Experience working on at least one project in Sub-Saharan Africa required; Lesotho preferred.
• Legally authorized to work in Lesotho.
• English required (written and spoken) required.
