We are seeking an experienced Senior Urban Mobility Expert to support cities in developing integrated, climate-resilient transport systems under a multi-country technical assistance initiative of the GIZ.
This dynamic initiative aims to strengthen the financial feasibility and environmental sustainability of urban infrastructure projects in energy, mobility, and waste sectors across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
As a Senior Urban Mobility Expert, you will play a central technical role in shaping sustainable transport interventions — from feasibility studies and design to capacity development and stakeholder coordination supported by a multinational experts team.

- Lead or technically coordinate urban mobility infrastructure projects , including BRT systems, e-mobility corridors, bicycle lanes, and inclusive public transport
- Support city administrations in technical feasibility studies , procurement planning, and PPP structuring
- Conduct environmental and social due diligence in line with IFC Performance Standards and national regulations
- Deliver capacity-building programs for municipal officials and local consultants
- Collaborate closely with GIZ, C40 Cities, and the CFF team to ensure alignment with global climate finance standards
- Develop knowledge products and lessons learned to support peer-to-peer learning across partner cities
- Education: Master’s degree or PhD in Transport Engineering, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related field
- Minimum 10 years in sustainable urban mobility, including hands-on experience in infrastructure development and at least 5 completed urban mobility infrastructure projects.
Candidates must demonstrate direct technical or leadership involvement in projects such as:

- Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems – corridor design, implementation support, or integration with feeder services
- Low-emission or electric bus infrastructure – including depot upgrades and charging station planning
- Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) infrastructure – such as pedestrian pathways, and universal accessibility improvements
- Public transport hubs and intermodal stations – including station design, last-mile connectivity, and inclusive access
- Urban road upgrades with climate-resilient components – e.g., drainage systems, green infrastructure, flood-resistant materials
- Bicycle lanes and public bike-sharing systems
- Cable cars as urban transport
- Urban logistics solutions
- Rail infrastructure
- Shared mobility (e.g., e-bikes, tricycles)
- Green corridors, pedestrianization, traffic calming
- At least 7 years working in engineering consultancy or project development , specifically in:
- Designing and structuring urban mobility infrastructure
- Procurement and project implementation
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams and budgets
- 3+ years in development cooperation projects (GIZ, KfW, World Bank, AFD, etc.)
- Experience in ODA-eligible countries
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication abilities
- Familiarity with IFC Performance Standards , ESG frameworks , and climate finance mechanisms
- Proven track record in capacity development , training, and institutional strengthening
- Ability to work in multicultural environments and manage remote teams
