Development professionals passionate about sustainable change – we invite you to apply for a key leadership role at the forefront of integrated landscape management (ILM) in Ethiopia.
We are seeking an inclusive, visionary, and results-oriented Team Leader to guide capacity development efforts and support local systems transformation in the Lake Chamo region. This is a central position within a GIZ-supported project, with a long-term commitment and high strategic relevance. Lead the strategic development and rollout of ILM approaches in the model region.
Develop frameworks for mainstreaming lessons learned into local partner systems.
Design and deliver high-quality capacity development programmes tailored to institutional and community needs.
Coordinate the project and manage the interdisciplinary team, ensuring timely delivery and strong collaboration between GIZ and headquarters.
Foster networks with private training providers and institutional partners.
Ensure synergy and complementarity between the project’s activities and national/local initiatives.
Guide the full cycle of capacity development measures, including M&E and policy advisory.
Postgraduate degree (MSc/PhD) in Project Management, Capacity Development, Organisational/Rural Development, Ecology, Development Studies, Geography, or Spatial Planning.
Proficient in English (C1) and Amharic (B2).
10 years in capacity development and project management.
8 years leading participatory NRM and/or local development strategy implementation (min. 2 assignments).
Proven track record in system analysis (min. 2 assignments).
3 years’ experience with formal training in OD-based capacity-building.
5 years of team leadership (min. 5 staff) and budget responsibility of €400,000 per year.
At least 5 years of international experience outside Ethiopia.
15 years of professional experience in Ethiopia, with a deep understanding of the local context.
3 years working on development cooperation projects, including those in close collaboration with governments.

Building trust and navigating complex stakeholder ecosystems.
Designing or refining project concepts and methodologies.
Empowering teams through coaching and inclusive leadership approaches.
