Project Overview:
This project aims to manage and develop a dedicated Suai Supply Base, through a Design-Build and Finance contract. The Supervision works of SSB design build contract will provide specialized project management advice and expertise in the development of onshore and offshore works.
We are currently seeking an experienced Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist with a minimum of 20 years' post-graduate experience to join our team in the region. The EHS Specialist will oversee the environmental and health & safety components of the Suai Supply Base project. This includes ensuring compliance with local regulations and international standards (e.g., IFC, WB), developing procedures, conducting audits, and working directly with contractors to foster a zero-incident culture.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Liaison with the other members of the Team;
- Reporting to Team Lead;
- Implement the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP)
- Conduct hazard assessments and lead toolbox talks, inductions, and safety briefings
- Ensure site-wide compliance with occupational health and safety legislation
- Audit contractor practices, including PPE, safety procedures, and waste management
- Establish accident reporting systems and lead incident investigations
- Monitor environmental mitigation measures and ensure performance reporting
- Liaise with community representatives and national agencies on compliance
- Maintaining a culture of continuous improvement across all aspects of the working environment and projects;
- To ensure maximum flexibility and to reflect the Company's evolving needs, additional tasks and responsibilities will form part of this role as it evolves.
- Perform other such duties as may be reasonably required.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
- Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or related discipline
- Minimum 20 years of experience overseeing EHS performance on large-scale infrastructure or marine/port projects
- Previous experience in a similar capacity as the sole or lead EHS expert on at least two supply base or port infrastructure projects of comparable nature, each with a construction cost exceeding USD 200 million
- Certified in NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent
- Experience in implementing international standards (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001, IFC Performance Standards)
- Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English;
- Excellent communication, reporting and computer skills;
- Competent in office packages, Microsoft, excel PowerPoint etc.;
- Good time management skills, with the ability to prioritise work and manage many tasks concurrently;
- Excellent clear and concise communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team;
- Strong cultural awareness and understanding of working in developing countries;
