Fundación Academia Europea de Yuste

The European Academy of Yuste Foundation was established on April 9th, 1992 as a permanent cultural foundation. It was born with the wish to stress the value of the close link between the Monastery of Yuste and Emperor Charles V's life and death. The symbolic value of the Monastery and the historic significance of the last European Emperor give the Foundation a solid Extremenian, Spanish and European dimension. If the Emperor closed one of the most outstanding chapters in the unfinished book of European history in Yuste on September 21st, 1558, the European Academy of Yuste Foundation, centuries later, aims to revitalize and to spread from Extremadura the Europeanism, dynamism and expectations that Charles V built up in the peace of this Extremenian monastery.The Foundation's cultural and social interests are directed towards the knowledge and spreading of the historical and cultural roots of the peoples and nations that comprise present-day Europe. The philosophy defended by the European Academy of Yuste Foundation is embodied in a message in which it is assumed that Maastricht's Europe represents a decisive moment of the European integration process. There exists an explicit wish to build the European Union, stating its double political and economic dimension, and considering that both common citizenship and single currency have introduced two powerful motive forces, which would not be as relevant if they were not considered together with other important elements such as culture and economic and social cohesion. We look forward to the development of Social Europe and Citizens' Europe in the same way as economic Europe.
