About

Founded as a German-African meeting place, the Oromo Horn of Africa Center began its activities in Berlin-Wedding in 1985, making it one of the oldest and most renowned migration associations in Berlin.

The association's task then, as now, is to promote acceptance in a multicultural society in which successful integration means equality for everyone.

The Oromo Horn of Africa Center is considered a contact point in all areas of integration assistance, an orientation point for refugees and provides active help to improve migration.

The association provides support when dealing with authorities, for example with the social welfare office, the immigration authority or the job center, offers translation work for formalities, individual advice and helps in arranging legal advice.

In addition to language training, the center supports school projects and conducts seminars to raise awareness of ethnic minorities in Germany.

The Oromo Horn of Africa Center also stands for the preservation of values and roots of migrants from various parts of Africa, which are cultivated through exchange and encounters. A focus of the center is also on educating people about the Oromo people, the indigenous people of East Africa. Which, with around 50 million people, is the second largest ethnic group in Africa and which has repeatedly been exposed to massive human rights violations since the colonization of their country.
