About

Somali Aid Foundation (SAF) is a non-governmental, non-partisan, non-political, non-profit, impartial, voluntary organization operating in South and Central Somalia. The organization is incorporated and registered in Somalia federal government.

SAF was established in 2000 in Afmadow District in lower Juba region in Somalia by a group of local Somali professionals from Lower and Middle Juba Region with the support of professionals from the Somali Diaspora who were deeply touched and moved by the devastating effect of the conflict and displacement of communities in Southern Somalia.

The formation of SAF was informed by the need to improve the socio-economic conditions of disadvantaged communities in Somalia with particular emphasis on IDPs in Lower and Middle Juba to alleviate IDPS suffering which was at its peak in at that time due to frequent civil strives and other natural disasters which led to large scale starvation and massive displacement. The NGO sought to accelerate humanitarian support and development of the rural communities and the urban poor, increase employment opportunities, reduce poverty, morbidity and mortality rates of women and children.

SAF has its headquarter in Dobley, Somalia and liaison Office in Nairobi, Kenya and Sub-Offices in Kismayo, and Afmadow in lower Juba region and Bualle, in Middle Juba region, Mogadishu in Banadir region and Dollow in Gedo region.
