About

Advocates for Social Change – Kenya (ADSOCK) was formed in the year 2001 as an initiative to engage with men, boys and institutions in the promotion of gender equality and human rights. Since its inception, ADSOCK have worked with different stakeholders to ensure its programmes reach a wide audience and particularly people at the grassroots level. ADSOCK was first registered as an autonomous Society in Kenya in 2005. In 2011, the organisation changed status to a National Non- Governmental Organisation.

ADSOCK’s theory of change is based on experience of influencing policy and practice, within advocacy networks, underpinned by the understanding that there are multiple, contextually specific pathways to change. Work to change political, economic, cultural, social and religious norms and power relations which prevent gender equality and the realisation of equal human rights needs to be coupled with efforts to identify and disrupt, adapt or dismantle policies, structures and systems which reinforce negative norms and stereotypes.

ADSOCK uses a range of methodologies including Gender Transformative Approaches (GTA) and Gender Accommodative Approaches (GAA) to encourage and open an honest exchange of ideas and to facilitate the internalization of knowledge about different issues and promote the development of joint actions and strategies. These include; self-reflection, group reflection, individual work, small group work, games, role-plays, lectures, large group discussions, audio and visual presentations.
