About

Mott MacDonald has been helping deliver projects in Turkey since 1972. Today we are contributing to the development of the country’s power, water, transport, education and health sectors.

  • Infrastructure investment is being driven by economic growth, the country’s increasing importance in international trade and its potential to become a member state of the EU. As well as providing technical solutions, we have been helping plan investments and advising on project finance.

    Management consultancy:

  • We worked for the agency of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, EVD, helping the Turkish Export Promotion Centre, IGEME, strengthen its capacity to train Turkish enterprises in international trade and business with other European countries. Our team assisted IGEME in improving the image of the Turkish business sector as a partner, to align trade promotion activities with enterprise needs and to enhance the business support networks.

Another key assignment – Strengthening the Turkish Patent Institute project – aimed to promote the use of industrial property rights among the country’s small and medium enterprise (SME) sector to enhance innovation and competitiveness. Our team acted as team leader, providing expertise on SME development, capacity building and information and communication.

    Transport:

  • Turkey has expanded several international airports using private finance to create world class facilities. Our aviation experts have provided technical support on seven around the country.

The Ankara Airport terminal project was awarded the 2005 Euromoney European Airport Project Finance Deal of the Year as the first large project finance deal in the country.

We also assisted the European Bank and local authority on the country’s first street-running tramway – the Estram scheme in Eskisehir – which won the 2004 UITP Tramway of the Year Award.

    Health:

  • Mott MacDonald is providing lenders technical advisory services on some of Turkey’s first hospital PPP projects - Kayseri Integrated Health Campus, Ankara Etlik, Bilkent and Istanbul Ikitelli. These health campus projects form part of Turkey’s €10billion+ investment in a health transformation programme which aims to renovate the healthcare infrastructure throughout Turkey to meet increasing demand.

    Education:

  • Our team of education experts provided technical assistance to support the establishment of an efficient and sustainable national qualifications system for assessment, grading and certification at all levels in line with the European Qualifications Framework.

We worked with the Ministry of National Education on a project to promote lifelong learning. The project aims were to promote the development and implementation of strategies for lifelong learning (LLL) and to establish an institutional framework in line with EU practices to support individuals’ access to education for increasing employment opportunities.

    Power:

  • Turkey has become one of the fastest growing energy markets in the world, with estimates predicting further annual growth of 6% until at least 2023. To meet the growing demands of our project partners, our dedicated power team based in Istanbul provides local resources and capabilities across the full spectrum of energy services around the country.

We provide engineering, project management and environmental services to cover the project lifecycle in all types of thermal, nuclear and renewable generating technologies, plus all transmission and distribution systems. The skills we bring to projects include all aspects of technical studies, design, engineering and management. We cover energy policy, environmental impact assessment and management, regulatory reform, planning, market, financial and technical modelling, price forecasting, corporate strategy, private sector power project development, risk analysis, due diligence and commercial issues.
