Description : GGGI Ethiopia Country Office is inviting eligible firms/entities to submit their proposals for the following scope of work:
PROJECT BACKGROUND:
Ethiopia's agricultural sector is a cornerstone of its economy, contributing 34% to the GDP and employing over 80% of the population. The sector faces significant challenges from climate variability, including uneven rainfall distribution and recurrent droughts, which threaten food and nutrition security, particularly in semi-arid regions.
The Government of Ethiopia has established the National Wheat Flagship Program (NWFP) with ambitious goals to achieve self-sufficiency and become a net exporter by 2025/26. The program aims to expand irrigated wheat production to one million hectares by 2022/23, targeting an average productivity of 4.2 tons/ha. This USD 1.44 billion initiative requires significant private sector investment, estimated at USD 1.3 billion. GGGI's preliminary scoping and pre-feasibility studies in the Central Rift Valley area have indicated that Agrivoltaics technology is technically, economically, socially, and environmentally feasible in Ethiopia. With approximately 50% of the country lacking electricity access, there is substantial demand for energy in productive sectors.
OBJECTIVE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
GGGI is seeking to engage a consulting firm to develop investment documents that attract the private sector's interest in integrating Agrivoltaics for Climate-resilient Agriculture and Energy Transition in Ethiopia.
The primary objective is to develop comprehensive investment documents that will:
1. Attract private sector investment in integrated Agrivoltaics systems for climate-resilient agriculture
2. Create technical, economic, social, and environmental viable implementation frameworks
3. Enable energy access for communities and industrial sectors
4. Support Ethiopia's transition to renewable energy while enhancing agricultural productivity
PROPOSED ACTIVITIES:
The selected Consultant shall complete the following:
1. Site Assessment and Local Analysis
2. Technical Design and Optimization
3. Financial Modeling and Analysis
4. Project Development and Risk Management
