About
GVC has been working in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) since 1992. It began its intervention in the health sector by creating the first transfusion health centre in the Gaza Strip, which is still operational. Currently, GVC acts both in humanitarian aid and development, aiming to: provide access to basic services and available natural resources; strengthen the protection of vulnerable communities; enhance socio-economic and local development.
GVC has implemented activities including: provision and reinstatement of WASH assets and infrastructures (cisterns, tanks, springs, reservoirs, networks and filling points); provision and reinstatement of livelihood assets (land, agricultural inputs and livestock); reinforcement of health and education services (schools and clinics); support for good governance (institutional capacity building, governance frameworks and institutional partnerships). The main goal of GVC activities in Palestine is to build resilience and empower vulnerable Palestinians through an integrated community-based approach. GVC also uses Linking Relief, Rehabilitation and Development (LRRD) and gender-sensitive approaches in all its interventions. GVC’s humanitarian and development strategy focuses on empowering local communities and fostering democratic participation by civil society, as well as on strengthening the governance capacity of the Palestinian Authority. This strategy supports preparation for decentralised institutions and civil society to advocate for the basic rights of Palestinians.
GVC is a non-governmental, secular and independent organisation founded in Bologna (Italy) in 1971. We have been active all over the world for more than 40 years and we are currently present in 26 countries.
