Our goal is for the poorest and most marginalised people to be able to secure their human rights as set out in the 1948 United Nation’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

This includes their basic rights to food, clean water, shelter, health care and livelihood. It equally includes their right to make decisions about things that affect their own lives and their right to a life of dignity.

We demand that poor people should be able to claim an active role in determining their own future. Further, the state and civil society need to protect and promote the rights of people. In doing so, governments must be totally accountable.

ActionAid believes that poverty will not end until everyone is able to assert their basic human rights.
