Humanity & Inclusion (former Handicap International) Algeria

Created in 1982, Handicap International is an independent and impartial international solidarity organization, which intervenes in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflicts and disasters.

Working alongside people with disabilities and vulnerable populations, it acts and bears witness, to meet their essential needs, to improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and their fundamental rights.

On January 24, 2018, the Handicap International global network changed its name to Humanity & Inclusion. This network is made up of a Federation which implements our programs in 56 countries and 8 National Associations. These programs or national associations bear the name “Handicap International” or “Humanity & Inclusion” depending on the country.

HI implements projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of vulnerable people and people with disabilities. This includes funding and supporting civil society organisations (CSOs) and professional networks and groups to develop and implement inclusive employment actions, the sustainable use of natural resources and the sale of local products in aid of people with disabilities and vulnerable people. We also help the most vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers by providing housing assistance and financial and psychological support to victims of violence.

HI also improves access to education for children with disabilities and works with its Sahrawi health partners to enhance rehabilitation care for people with disabilities in Sahrawi refugee camps. We train health professionals, help identify people with disabilities, and ensure they have access to high-quality services.
