About
Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Belgium (VSF-B), in partnership with local and international actors, strengthens the capacities of disadvantaged communities dependent on livestock in the South in order to improve their well-being. VSF-B supports development programmes in 9 African countries: Mali, Bénin, Burkina Faso, Niger, DR Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and Tanzania.
VSF-B's interventions are based on 4 strategic axes:
- sustainable modes of animal production and consumption of livestock products. This includes the improvement of animal health through community-based animal health services, the improvement of productivity and husbandry techniques, the sustainable management of natural resources and the reduction of related conflicts;
- value chains related to livestock products from producer to consumer;
- livelihood diversification and improved food security, including access to financial resources to undertake new income-generating activities, and capacity building in the area of nutritional balance;
- capacity building for pastoralist communities, policy makers, civil society and consumers, including knowledge management, advocacy and awareness raising.
In support of its actions in the South, VSF raises awareness in Europe among livestock professionals, policy makers and consumers on sustainable production and consumption patterns.
