About
SMEC has operated in Sri Lanka since 1982. SMEC's first project in Sri Lanka was the Mahaweli Area Roads Development Project. This project involved the development of a primary road network to serve selected areas of the Mahaweli Ganga Basin. SMEC opened a permanent office in Colombo in 1998 and SMEC’s fully owned subsidiary, Ocyana Consultants, was established in Sri Lanka in 2008.
SMEC has been involved in a number of road improvement projects, provided consultancy services for the chancery building in Colombo and the rural electrification development project and completed feasibility studies for water supply and sanitation improvement projects.
SMEC has experience in the Transport, Water, Hydropower and Energy, Social Development, Urban Development and Government and Advisory Services sectors in Sri Lanka. SMEC was recently engaged as the employer’s representative on the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway Project. Upon completion, the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway will be a high speed road link between Colombo City, Katunayake and the Bandaranayake International Airport. SMEC will ensure that the design and construction of the 24km, four lane divided expressway conforms to specified standards
