The Italian Red Cross, a non-profit association with international prerogatives, has as its purpose health and social assistance both in times of peace and in times of conflict. The Italian Red Cross is recognized by the Italian Republic with the legislative decree of 28 September 2012, n. 178 as a Voluntary Rescue and Assistance Society, auxiliary to the public powers in the humanitarian field, in accordance with the Geneva Conventions and subsequent Additional Protocols, and as the only National Red Cross Society authorized to carry out its activities on the Italian territory.
