Description

WHO Timor-Leste is responsible for the formulation and implementation of the Government-WHO collaborative programmes, which includes integrated disease surveillance, health planning, communicable diseases such as Malaria and Tuberculosis, acute respiratory and diarrhoeal diseases, Leprosy, laboratories and blood safety, non-communicable diseases and emergency preparedness and response, to name but a few.

WHO cooperates and collaborates with the Government and other development partners to provide the greatest possible contribution to improving the health of the people of Timor-Leste. This is expected to be accomplished by advocating and supporting health promoting policies, facilitating sustainable development of health systems, and developing and implementing health programmes aimed at reducing the excess burden of diseases. Improving health conditions will also contribute to poverty alleviation and gender equity, in consistence with Timor-Leste’s national health development goals.
