The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has been working in Honduras on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) for around 50 years.
Development challenges in Honduras include raising the level of education and increasing labour productivity, improving the efficiency and transparency of state institutions, and protecting the public from frequent natural disasters.
The main objectives of the cooperation between Honduras and Germany are poverty reduction and sustainable development. GIZ’s work focuses on two priority areas:
- education (basic education and non-formal vocational education)
- environmental policy, conservation and sustainable management of natural resources
In addition, GIZ provides support to Honduras through regional programmes which promote renewable energies and energy efficiency and aim to prevent youth violence in Central America.
