Description
GIZ has been represented in Senegal since 1977, and opened its own office in 1989 in the capital city Dakar. A total of 14 seconded staff members, including 3 CIM experts, and 104 national personnel are currently working in 8 of Senegal’s 14 regions.
In line with the Senegalese Government’s poverty reduction strategy, the current priority areas of cooperation are:
- decentralisation and local development, taking into account peacebuilding in the Casamance
- sustainable economic development
- renewable energies and energy efficiency.
This engagement is supplemented by advisory services to the Senegalese Ministry of Finance. GIZ is also involved in two supraregional projects focusing on fisheries and the elimination of female genital mutilation.
